APEC's National Business Centre (NBC) in Russia will unite Russian businesses with interests in the Asian-Pacific region and be open to all, Ziyavudin Magomedov, Co-chair of the Business Advisory Council for APEC 2011 and Chairman of the Board for Summa Group, told Prime.

APEC's National Business Centre (NBS) in Russia is a business association, that works as a partnership to assist Russian businesses in developing their business interests across the region.

"We have only just begun discussions with potential NBC members, so it's premature to talk about a number. But I think there will probably be over a hundred," said Magomedov. He emphasised that the NBC is a non-profit organisation that would be financed by membership dues.

On November 10, APEC's National Business Centre in Russia signed a partnership agreement with APEC's Nation Centre in the United States in Honolulu. The parties agreed to exchange information and experience to help meet their objectives. APEC's national centres in Russia and the United States also agreed to cooperate in implementing joint measures intended to improve business conditions in the Asian-Pacific region.

In order to improve the operation of the APEC Forum and APEC's International Secretariat, located in Singapore, each APEC nation will form their own national business centres. The basic mission of the Russian NBC is to both encourage and facilitate participation by Russian business in the existing projects and programmes offered by APEC and the APEC Business Advisory Council. It will also seek to align business interests in order to create new initiatives and achieve practical results for the good of the Russian economy. The Centre's work will be directed toward supporting initiatives across a range of areas. These include energy security, the development and production of environmentally-friendly goods and services, protection of the environment, improvement of the terms of trade, protection of intellectual property, development of the transport and supply system, investments, services, health care, food security, information and communication technology and financial services.

"We are interested in participating in combined projects across the Asian-Pacific region. For Russia, presiding at the APEC Forum is a great opportunity to contribute to the global agenda," Magomedov added.
