The renovation of the buildings of the Gnesin Academy, which opened back in 1895, began ten years ago when the buildings were declared unsafe for use.

The company Inteks, a subsidiary of Ziyavudin Magomedov's Summa Group, plans to complete the renovation of the main (first) building of the Gnesin Academy of Music in Moscow a month ahead of schedule – by September 1, 2013, according to a company press release.

The release noted that white stone was used during the work on the first building, which is characteristic of the surfacing materials used in Russian architecture of the 18th – 19th centuries. As part of the renovation work, a modern air-conditioning system was developed and is currently being installed, which makes it possible to create and maintain the special indoor climate that is required for music classes and storing instruments.

"The second and the fourth buildings will be ready by the agreed deadline, in late September of this year, and the third building by late December 2013," the notification added.

The Gnesin Academy of Music was founded in early 1895 by Yevgeniya, Yelena, and Mariya Gnesin – pianists who had graduated from the Moscow Conservatory. The school's founding date is considered to be February 15, 1895 – the day the first student enrolled. In 1992, the school became known as the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.

The renovation of the buildings of the Gnesin Academy began ten years ago when the buildings were declared unsafe for use. Until September 2010, the official contractor for the renovation project at the Gnesin Academy of Music was the Mospromstroi company, but after a review of the investment contracts conducted by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin after taking office, the decision was made to hold a new tender. As a result, Inteks took over the renovation work.
