Summa Group and GS1 RUS are working together to expand the use of GS1 standards throughout Russia, including the standards and technology of Electronic Product Codes (EPC) and Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID), which make it possible to remotely transmit data about an item s movements in order to improve global logistics and transportation chains. A corresponding letter of intent was signed in September 2012 in Vladivostok as part of the APEC summit. Russia s initiative to develop and introduce a uniform RFID standard, based on the global GS1 EPC standard, in the supply chains of the APEC member economies has been approved by the APEC Business Advisory Council.

The use of RFID significantly reduces the time required to identify goods and obtain supporting documentation: RFID tags attached to containers and cargo instantly provide all the information needed by government services and transportation companies.

"Our company feels that the use of EPC/RFID is a very promising way to improve the efficiency of our transportation assets. We believe that the further development of our partnership with GS1 RUS will promote the greater use of RFID in Russia," stated Aleksandr Vinokurov, Summa Group s president.

"We welcome Summa Group as a new member of the GS1 RUS Association. We are confident that working with one of Russia s leading companies will allow us to make great progress introducing GS1 standards in the most critical sector of the Russian economy - transportation and logistics," said Georgy Nasonov, the general director of GS1 RUS.
