Bill Shor, the Managing Director of Caspian Venture Capital, and Dr Casey Handmer, Hyperloop One Levitation Engineer, at the Eastern Economic Forum in the presence ofMaksim Sokolov, the Minister of Transport of Russia, presented a study of using Hyperloop to connect Hunchun Transport and Logistics Center (China) and the planned Big Zarubino Port (Russia).
The study was commissioned by Caspian VC and Hyperloop One. It was carried out by Russian MosgortransNIIproekt Institute.
The study confirmed that the Hyperloop can be used to transport cargo on the Hunchun – Zarubino Line. Engineers have produced a detailed route of the Hyperloop line taking into consideration both the technology and the terrain, they have also proposed the first technological solutions for the pillars of the future tube.
The preliminary estimate for the CAPEX of the project is $1.5–2.1 b.
The length of the tube is almost 65 kilometers (40.4 miles). Average speed reachable on the line is 875 kilometers an hour (544 miles an hour).
It is estimated that on Year 5 after the project starts operation the line will be capable of carrying 18.9m metric tons of grain and 1.3m TEUs of various goods. The line’s maximum capacity is 50m metric tons in one direction.
As a part of the study, a road map for the project was created. It is planned that it will take at least 4 years to launch the Hunchun – Zarubino line, including 3 years needed to analyze and update the regulatory framework as well as to prepare a detailed feasibility study of the project.

BACKGROUND
The Hyperloop technology incorporates reduced-pressure ( air pressure 1/1000 of normal) tubes in which pressurized capsules move efficiently at extremely high speed in the low friction environment. The diameter of the pipe is 6.8 meters (19.7 feet). Capsule is roughly 21 meter (69 feet) long and can carry 2 TEUs. The loading, movement, and unloading of the capsule is automated, on demand, and point to point. The total capacity of a loaded capsule is roughly 30 metric tons.
“Summa” Group expects to launch the Big Port Zarubino in Troitsy Bay, 18 km from the border with China. The cargo base should be formed largely by Chinese goods, including goods travelling from the northeastern to southern provinces of China. Also, the port will handle Russian export grain. The port will include grain, container and bunkering terminals. The projects also implies large-scale modernization of transport and power infrastructure between Hunchun (China) and Zarubino (Russia). Total investments into the project could reach $2.6-3 billion.
