Inteks is completing major renovations ahead of schedule on the main building of the Gnesin Academy of Music.

The Inteks company (a subsidiary of Summa Group) is completing major renovations and restoration work on the main building of the Gnesin Academy of Music, a monument of 18-19th-century architecture. This is the first time in its long history that the Gnesin Academy has undergone renovation and restoration work. The first building is scheduled to open in time for the new school year on September 1. Inteks will have the main building ready for service a month ahead of schedule, despite a four-month delay in transferring the facility from the previous contractor. The second and the fourth buildings will be ready by the agreed deadline, in late September of this year, and the third building by late December 2013.

White stone was extensively used during the work on the first building, which is characteristic of the surfacing materials used in Russian architecture of the 18th – 19th centuries. All the work is being done in keeping with the original sketches of the school buildings. As part of the renovations, white stone arches and a pedestal, plus a total of 88 window sills and windows with oak frames were reconstructed. A parquet floor was laid in the new auditorium that seats 125. During the restoration of the facade, the stucco molding and six pilasters weighing six tons apiece were reconstructed.

As part of the renovation work, a modern air-conditioning system was developed and is currently being installed, which makes it possible to create and maintain the special indoor climate that is required for music classes and storing instruments. Seven different ventilation systems for each type of room were installed in the building. Modern technological materials were used to soundproof the classrooms where music lessons are held. In addition, the building was adapted to be accessible to the physically disabled.

"Despite the difficulties caused by the delay in transferring the facility from the previous contractor, from the very beginning we had the goal of completing the renovation of the first building before the new school year began. Now the music students can start their classes in the new main building. And when the second and fourth buildings are ready at the end of September, they will be able to both perform their music and study their academic subjects in a single location," noted Aleksei Suprunov, the general director of Inteks.
