The Bolshoi Theatre
The Bolshoi Theatre is not only Russia’s most famous cultural symbol and the country’s crown jewel - it is also one of the best music theatres in the world.
The main goals of the renovation and restoration of the Bolshoi Theatre witch was completed in October 2011 were to preserve the historic building and to create a modern venue where artists can perform and rehearse. By the time the renovation started the wear of the building was up to 70 percent.
The general contractor for second stage of the work was SUIproekt, a member of Summa Group since July 2009.
After the renovation the building’s total area increased more than two times to 73,000 sq meters. Six underground storeys were added to the building (some of them are 26 meters under the ground), including a completely new concert hall 7,500 sq large with seats for 350 visitors.
With all work on the theatre now complete opera and ballet artists have now returned to the stage of the Bolshoi, and the audience can appreciate the venue’s unique acoustics, a special point of pride for all those who so painstakingly restored the building.
